Pool Rules

Cherry Village Pool Rules

Cherry Village Lifeguard Contract

A little pool history:

1. Pool Rules: Most of these are based on Rod Burgi's suggestions to help maintain cleanliness and abide by legal specifications. He suggested having residents sign the rules before using the pool. That was difficult to enforce. I just left an envelope int he pool area for people to return their signatures.

2. Lifeguarding: The time was changed last year from 12-2 instead of 11-1. I took an unofficial survey by talking with the Mom's who used lifeguarding most and this was their input. You're welcome to keep it or change it as you guys decide. Janna and I also worked out a sliding pay scale and contract for hired lifeguards. Something like $7 if no experience, $8 for a year and $9 for 2 years. That is also your discretion. Some village members felt we were overpaying inexperienced lifeguards.

3. Parties: The party rules are mostly based on tradition through a lot of trial and error. The main idea here is that no one can ever "reserve" the pool. They are welcome to have one party a year (more than 10 guests I believe?) and are asked to notify the village but cannot tell people not to swim. They are also asked not to have their party on weekend or Holidays since those are peek swim times for the residents.

4. Swim lessons: Insurance threatened not to cover us when they heard we were using our pool for swim lessons. The only way around this is that a Mom can invite a swim teacher as her guest and pay her to teach her children. It worked great to have Debbie teach last year since she's a resident and the kids could be her guest. Debbie advertised individually and the Mom's each worked directly with her. But I heard she's not teaching this summer.

5. Rule Exception: Last summer we added the exception to the rule that a resident must be with their guests at all times. Adult children and Grandchildren of residents may swim if they sign a copy of the modified pool rules (not including privileges such as parties). I was really happy to see this change since many of our residents don't use the pool but their kids and Grandkids would love to use it. So far there don't seem to be any abuses of this exception and I hope it stays that way.
